I have been meaning to do this for quite a while now. I’m happy that I finally got started on this website. I can’t believe nobody took that url!
This blog space will be used for more general thoughts, in-progress updates, and perhaps might even serve as a space for me to post info about my non-PXL related projects as well (there are SO many). So I hope you like walls of text, tangents, and parentheticals. If not, then hey, there are plenty of curated thoughts on the rest of the site.
This website will serve several functions; a hub for technical information, with the specific goal to help increase the accessibility of the PXL-2000 (no more digging on archive.org for teeny pictures). It will serve as a preservation project, I intend to document all of the accessories with tons of high quality photos, and I also intend to preserve some of the unique, more personal information I found on archive.org such as specific blog posts or PXL projects I found. One guy put his camera inside a shampoo bottle I couldn’t just leave that on the internet archive forever I backed that up, lol.
I’m going to post every single morsel of information that I have on the PXL-2000 camera here on this website, which is quite alot. I’ve dug EVERYWHERE. I went through every website on archive.org (I was able to find websites you may not have). I went through every current website on google. I’ve gone through all the social media sites. I bought 5 cameras and have been inside and out of all of them (which are in various states of functionality at the moment, perhaps there will be some blog posts about those in the future). I’ve restored it, I’ve modified it, I’ve written tutorials, I’ve modeled and 3D printed my own accessories, I’ve made parody logos and ancillary artwork, I’ve had a lot of fun with this camera. There is still a lot to learn, a long way to go, and I don’t claim to be any sort of expert in anything, but I’ve gotten further than a lot of people I’ve seen on social media and youtube and I thought it would help to put all of that information in one place.
A lot of the hard work is done already, I just gotta get it up here. I finished the research long ago. A lot of the tutorials are done, and for a lot of the ones that aren’t, the pictures are done. (progress listed in the tutorials page).
There’s not much right now but I do have a few things up on the site already. I’ve got the tutorial for Initial Camera Disassembly up. That one is kinda important, lol. I’ve got IR Filters up for sale in the shop. Those should be ready to buy right now, I’m pretty sure I got everything all set up ready to go on it. Who wants to be my first customer here? Help me fight evil eBay fees with…slightly lesser fees here. lol.
By the way I’m happy to ship worldwide, if you have any trouble with that in the store let me know. I will arrange some way to get you your PXL things one way or another. Oh wait, how are you going to contact me? I haven’t set up an email for the site yet. I’ll do that later. (he said. really hoping that later means right after this blog is done and he doesn’t forget by then. Hopefully this fourth-wall breaking parenthetical will be a reminder during the final proofread). Oh wait, people can leave comments can’t they? Well maybe do that if I forget to do the email.
I’m almost done with the IR Filter removal and focusing tutorial. All the pictures and screencaps are done. I just gotta write the text and post it. That should be soon (hopefully tomorrow). I want to thank the 2 customers who messaged me on eBay about it last week, kicking me in the ass to finally make that tutorial…and then make this website because I can’t half-ass anything that I actually care about.
After I get that tutorial finished up I will probably have to take a break from the majority of the website stuff as I have a lot of personal things going on. I’m in the home stretch of my campervan build, and I really need to focus on that so I can get back on the road. I should have a ton of time for PXL stuff when I finally get out to the middle of nowhere.
A little bit about me and the PXL:
The PXL-2000 has been a bit of an obsession for me the past few years ever since I saw a youtube video about it. I couldn’t believe there was a VIDEO camera, that recorded to AUDIO cassette. I absolutely had to have one. I had already been getting back into audio cassettes for some years, and this was the icing on a cake that I didn’t even know existed. Little could I know that that impulse buy would bring me to here.
Since then I’ve done…well all of the above. I’ve also been somewhat regularly uploading to my youtube channel, where I record live concerts with my PXL-2000. I haven’t kept up super recently but I did post a show just a few weeks ago. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/@thebootbootlegs
Anyways thanks for sticking around and reading. I hope you enjoy the website. If it helps you get your PXL fixed up and running, then even better.

An older picture of my main PXL-2000. I’ve since changed up a few things but it’s still working absolutely perfectly.
